Living with the rhythm of the new and full Moon

Changing one small part of the evening at the new and full Moon can make our own rhythms easier to notice. This is how I work with the lunar cycle at Hikari no Ki, through the felt quality of the night rather than detailed astronomical calculation.

New Moon: plant a seed

At the new Moon, the Moon disappears from view. The night is dark and quiet. It can be used as a time to place a seed for something you want to grow.

The seed does not need ceremony. Write one line about what you want to tend during the coming month, or hold the words silently. The darkness is a place where something not yet visible can stay warm before it sprouts. The intention is a way to hear your own direction, not a spell that guarantees an outcome.

Full Moon: notice what has ripened

At the full Moon, energy can feel more outward and wakeful. Some people sleep lightly or feel more emotionally charged.

Instead of adding another goal, look at what is already full. Notice what the past month has brought and what is now complete. The full Moon is also associated with release. Something that has reached its limit can be put down without being forced to continue.

Return to the ground

Around the full Moon, attention can rise toward the head and feel unsteady. Grounding helps bring that expanded feeling back into the body.

Place both feet on the floor. Notice the contact under the soles and lengthen the exhale. Feel the weight of the body moving down through the feet. This simple act can make either the brightness of the full Moon or the inward quiet of the new Moon easier to hold.

The meditation Hikari no Ki is preparing to offer is the MAX Meditation System™. What it involves is described on that page.

A small monthly marker

The new and full Moon return every month. Let one be a moment for planting and the other a moment for tasting and releasing. There is no need to practice perfectly. Stopping for a few minutes in the months when you remember is enough to begin seeing your own rise and fall of energy.
